Netflix Is a Joke Fest is North America’s premier comedy festival, showcasing over 300 shows across Los Angeles over two weeks. At the heart of this grand celebration of comedy is the Outside Joke Festival, an outdoor event held at the iconic Hollywood Palladium. This festival features a lively mix of late-night stand-up performances, interactive game shows with cast participation, and a variety of lawn games designed to entertain comedy lovers. Outside Joke offers comedy enthusiasts the chance to immerse themselves in humor, celebrating both Netflix’s acclaimed comedy lineup and broader comedic moments.

The Challenge

To successfully bring this massive outdoor event to life, Netflix partnered with Superfly and entrusted Southport with managing site operations. Southport’s role encompassed comprehensive site management, including staffing, vendor oversight, and coordination of vendors and equipment throughout the setup, event, and breakdown phases. Southport also oversaw the construction and operation of the event space to ensure a seamless experience.

Upon completion of the setup, Netflix further relied on Southport for activation and operational staffing solutions. Southport’s top-tier brand ambassadors played a crucial role in creating an engaging festival atmosphere, greeting attendees with warm smiles and facilitating Netflix IP-inspired activations. They also supported the backstage hospitality operations. The festival offered a variety of attractions, including amusement rides, interactive games, diverse food options, exclusive merchandise, and a continuous lineup of comedy. This diverse range of activities ensured every guest had a memorable and laughter-filled experience.

Netflix’s Outside Joke Festival reached new heights, achieving its most successful turnout to date, with over 30,000 attendees over two event-packed weekends. The festival transformed the Palladium’s parking lot into a vibrant venue, complete with over 75,000 square feet of artificial turf, a festival stage featuring more than 100 stand-up comedy performances, and various programming. The event also included three Netflix IP activations, immersive food and beverage experiences, and a sprawling VIP area catering to industry professionals. This combination of entertainment and engagement solidified Outside Joke as a standout event within the Netflix Is a Joke Fest, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
